Local area
The idylic town of Guardamar Del Segura is situated just 12 km north of Torrevieja on the Southern Costa Blanca, it is most famous for it's 10 km stretch of beach, pine forests, and the natural salt lakes, and although it is a developing tourist area it is not commercialized like some larger resorts in the Costa Blanca region, such as Benidorm.
Guardamar has much to offer in the way of sport, you'll find water sports such as windsurfing, water skiing, fishing, scuba diving and much more, there's the local municipal sports complex with tennis courts, swimming pools, basketball and handball, or there's a wide selection of golf courses nearby. Being close to the beach, Guadamar often used to suffer sandstorms so they decided to plant large forests of pines and eucalyptus, the area is now known as Dunas De Guardamar, with over 800 hectares running parallel to the coast it attracts an enormous amount of wildlife and is now an environmentally protected area.
The Reina Sofia Park is a wonderful place to walk and relax amongst the native fauna and flora. Take a stroll along the trails, marvel at the lakes and waterfalls, and the enormous amounts of wildlife that makes it's home here.
